The Compassionate Friends is a non - profit international organization.
The mission of The Compassionate Friends: When a child dies, at any age, the family suffers intense pain and may feel hopeless and isolated. The Compassionate Friends provides highly personal comfort, hope, and support to every family experiencing the death of a son or a daughter, a brother or a sister, or a grandchild, and helps others better assist the grieving family.
Our local Miami Valley Chapter is a participating chapter of the National Organization. Their information can be found by visiting their site at: CompassionateFriends.org
In addition, there is a chapter locator site to see which local chapter is closest to you. Chapter Locator Link: Local Chapter Locator
Our meetings are open to all family members (age 13 and older) who are grieving the death of a child, sibling, or grandchild. There is no religious affiliation and no dues or fees. There is a free chapter lending library with over 100 books available and a free monthly newsletter. We offer a safe place for bereaved parents, grandparents and siblings to meet and talk freely about your child and your grief issues. No one is required to speak, but non-judgmental listening is expected.
Meetings are held at Sugar Creek Presbyterian Church located at the corner of Bigger Rd. and Wilmington Pk., Kettering, Ohio. We serve Dayton, Middletown, and the surrounding areas. (While our meetings are held at a church, there is no religious affiliation with our organization.) Each meeting has a topic, but discussions sometimes lead to other grief related areas. If you want to attend but don't think the topic is relevant for you, please come anyway. We are here for YOU and will listen to whatever you need to share :)
